I'm happy you're here. I'm Jeudi.  People call me a "Vintage-Voiced Chanteuse".  It's apt. I'm known for having a vintage-influenced fashion sense and for finding and singing mostly forgotten Jazz Age era songs. The beautiful melodies  and heartfelt stories speak to me and call out to be shared once again.

Throughout my life, while most of my peers were listening to the top 40 on the radio, I was listening to their grandparent's top 40! Sure many of these songs have become "standards", but it astounds me that so many other incredible songs could be forgotten!

This love of history, really goes back to my family. I was the kid who always wanted to be inside the house listening to the grown-ups reminisce about their lives. They had such incredible stories about the old country and about life during the Great Depression and WW2. My mom was even a Rosie the Riveter! (Both she and my Dad were sharp dressers and great dancers, which definitely affected my taste in fashion and music.)  Some of my fondest memories are from my earliest childhood, when I'd visit my Tata's (grandpa's) house in the Barrio. It was a time capsule from the past. There were old cars, a foot-powered Singer sewing machine, a wood burning stove, flour bins, an old ice box, a clawfoot tub, and you could even listen to old songs on the Victrola! 

Back home, we were lucky enough to have a player piano. It was like stairmaster-meets-karaoke.  We had hundreds of piano rolls mostly dating from the 1910s to the 1940s. It was such a novelty that everyone wanted to see or try the player piano. The neighborhood kids and my family were my first audiences. Either with them, or alone, I'd spend countless hours pumping the pedals and singing along with these old songs.

So, it's no wonder that I still get a thrill from sleuthing through actual and virtual antique shops to excavate forgotten musical treasures, dust them off and dress them in fresh new arrangements for modern retro loving audiences! 

As a sentimental gal, I feel a strong connection to previous generations and I archive my family's rich history to preserve the lessons of the past. So naturally, this inclination extends outward in my work. 

Storytelling though Song

Times may change, but matters of the heart remain timeless. It's intriguing that these obscure songs feel familiar, even if they've often been collecting dust for close to 100 years. 

However, I'm not a preservationist, I'm an interpreter. As a storyteller and performer of vintage music, I like to take people on a  journey. While you’re listening, I hope you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the past - - maybe it’s a swank Supper Club in Manhattan, an intimate Parisian Cabaret, an elegant London ballroom, or to Hollywood’s Golden Age - - or maybe you’ll just drift on the music, back to your own memories."

Over the years, my live cabaret acts have become synonymous with storytelling through song. I love the intimacy of salon performances, where I can see the audience and sing them a story.  I've been fortunate enough to do this in different international settings and I love how even if someone doesn't understand the language of the lyric, they will still connect with the emotional delivery. It's a powerful balm and a tuneful tonic for the soul. Music shows us our common humanity.  It can resonate... even if it's in a different language... even if it's generations old. That's pure magic!

I choose to focus on songs that are swinging and sentimental because sometimes we need to indulge our emotions and other times, we just want to celebrate and forget our woes. Composed between the 1920s and 40s, this music was written to give hope and joy to people during terrifically challenging times, which speaks to the resilience of our forebears. And honestly, this couldn't be more relevant today.

These days my primary focus is on musical theatre. I've written a Jazz Age era "juke-box musical". It's called "Love Outshines the Moon". This show blends all my skill sets and it takes my storytelling through song to a whole new level.  The common themes are love, compassion, joy and faith in the future.

I'm an optimist and hopeful romantic, on a mission to bring more love and levity to the world.
